How to measure an axle width
When a tractor or sprayer has a sliding bar axle it’s useful to know what width it is set on – this allows us to build rims up to the correct track width without you needing to change the position of the axle.
To allow this, we need an accurate measurement of the axle width.
Follow the steps below to measure your axle width
You will need:
- Tape measure
- 2x straight-edges, i.e. level, piece of wood, broom handles, etc
- Someone to hold the other end of the tape measure
Take the measurement as shown in the photo below.
Put the wood across the tyre on both sides of the tractor and measure the overall width from the inside of the wood.
Make sure the tape is pushed right up to the wood and that the wood is tight against the tyre wall.
Keep the wood across the tyre and measure in from the wood to the wheel centre (near where the studs bolt in).
Make sure the wood is tight against the tyre wall.
With those two measurements we can work out the axle width.
